Students See Missions in Africa
It’s one of those moments where you can almost hear crickets chirping. Two International Mission Board short-term missionaries are trying to get a room full of high school students to open up about issues they face at home.

Another Game…Another Heart-Attack
Sniffing the air, the sweet aroma gently caressed my nostrils, Aw, if ‘Perfect’ had a scent, surely it would be thee! Few smells can stir such emotion, or command such passion as the glorious fragrance of–a hockey bag. Each piece of equipment uniquely perfuming the air: the odor of sweaty shoulder-pads bringing back my first childhood game, the scent of moldy shin pads rekindling thoughts of glorious goals. The time has come after four-year hibernation from hockey, I would return to the ice–and recapture my former glory.

Rock and Roll…
I was having one of those days where I couldn’t seem to stay awake. After class I went out to my car and started driving home. When I finally pulled up to the apartment complex, beautiful thoughts were beginning to fill my head: Thoughts of my soft pillow; thoughts of my quiet room; thoughts of the giant rock right in front of me. GIANT ROCK?!

If At First You Don’t Succeed…Maybe You Shouldn’t Drive
The piercing squeal of burning tires roared over top the rambunctious crowd. An entire lifetime boiled down to this. Swerving my car around the final turn I gazed towards the finish line. This is who I am; I was born to drive…
Get Real
The other evening I watched the 2001 film, “A Beautiful Mind,” which tells the story of John Nash, a 1994 Nobel Prize winner and brilliant mathematician who struggled to overcome the delusions and reality-warping effects of schizophrenia. I have seen this film before, but I continue to be profoundly impressed by the man’s ability to use more than his sensual perceptions to ascertain reality. By trusting family and friends who loved him to tell him if something was “real” and by choosing not to feed his delusions, Nash managed to keep his feet in the real world and to contribute to it greatly. That’s pretty deep stuff, but what I really mean to ponder here is how much of what we see as reality really is real?

A Prayer Warrior in the Making
I’ve never been much of a prayer warrior, but thankfully I am the daughter of one. My mom is the kind of woman who wakes before the sun in order to make sure her daughters are covered in prayer before their alarm clocks ever go off. I’ve always been humbled by my mom’s intercession but never really understood it…until now.

It’s all Greek to Me…
Blood ran thick with battle lust. The line between friend and foe became blurred. The fierce would defeat the fainthearted in pursuit of the ultimate prize. There would be casualties, but that is the price of war. It was sixth grade class presentations and only one set of parents would be left standing.

Memory Lapse
There are just two things about my summer that I didn’t like – the seven-hour flight to Anchorage and the half-hour flight to Kenai.

Dare to Compare
Last evening a rodeo evangelist spoke at my church. Yes, you read that right. A “rodeo evangelist.” Before he began, I wondered how I could relate to what he would have to say, but as I listened I was delighted by his passion for sharing the gospel in such a unique way.

Wishing and Waiting
Have you ever had the wonderful fortune of taking a trip to your local Department of Motor Vehicles? Well let me tell you, it’s a party! Make sure you bring something to entertain you and clear your schedule for the day because you’ll be there for awhile —regardless of what it is you’re there for.
