Searching

Sarah grew up in California. She attended a church for underprivileged people until she was a teen, but really never knew God. In high school, she was told by one of the church members that her family was only worth anything to the church because of the paycheck they gave each week. Poof! She had been burned by the Church in an instant.

Needles and Reflections

posted by Mike Blackaby

I was attached to numerous machines and thought things couldn’t get any worse when suddenly two beautiful nurses entered the room. All thoughts of my previous gloom disappeared in an instant! Then I realized why they were there.

I’ll Have That to Go Please…

She had been cruelly deceived into becoming a stay-at-home-mom by my brother. He had been so cute! However, two years later marked the end of an era; the age of down-time and freedom was over. As I charged out of the womb crying and needy, I ushered in the age of driving and stress. She was like the Energizer Bunny, her mammoth to-do lists requiring bookmarks, and on this particular trip, she had around thirty-eight stops to make, and approximately twelve minutes to make them.

The night before my birthday, I could only think about what might await me the next morning. Thanks to an overactive sense of curiosity, it didn’t take long before I sneaked downstairs in the dark to uncover the mystery. Sure enough, there was a package waiting for me at the kitchen table. I carefully removed the tissue paper, peered inside the bag and saw …a pair of kneepads.

As I began reading through my old entries, I realized something very startling. My spiritual growth comes in seasons. My journey is not smooth and comfortable as I seek to live the sanctified life that Paul speaks of in his writings (1 Thessalonians 4). In fact, I just realized this road is a battleground!

Can You Hear Me Up There?

posted by Jonathan Frank

Here I am almost two months into my “college experience” as everyone over the age of forty likes to call it, and I still couldn’t be happier with my choice in a school. It is the perfect distance from home—about an hour and a half (which allows for space and time away from home, but I can still go back on a whim), I’ve met a lot of great people, and I enjoy my classes. My one complaint, however, is that sometimes I do feel a little “lost in the crowd.”

“Peak” Performance: Beware the slippery slope…

posted by Mike Blackaby

The first step to skiing is getting the right gear, and my mother was not cutting any corners. She bought a brand new snowsuit, gloves, head band, goggles, woolen socks, neck warmer and thermal underwear–all name brand of course. Then it was time to choose equipment. She bypassed the cheap and used section and walked straight to the top-of-the-line display (much to the glee of our sales person!).

Meet the neighbors?

If you don’t keep your world view tied firmly to biblical truth, you’ll soon find yourself in dangerous, strange and unfamiliar places.

Sitting Pretty

posted by Ashley Davis

Godly posture also involves turning from sin. How can I go forward with God if I’m not willing to forsake my sin? How can I hear new things from Him if I am hardening my heart to the rebuke He’s already given?
