Balancing Act
What happens when you neglect one thing and focus on another? You get really good at what you focused on and worse at what you neglected. If you knew me, you’d know that I always say “repetition is a great thing.” I don’t always “get” a lesson the first time, but I’ve got this one finally!

Spring Cleaning (Yuck!)
Spring has sprung, and although I really do love this time of year, I don’t enjoy all of the work that comes along with it. Time to clean the winter gunk out of the windows, weed the flower beds, put away the coats and sweaters we won’t need for several months, and get in some extra time exercising in order to wear our summer clothes. It’s a lot of work! Frankly, just the thought of it makes me want to throw in the towel, hunker down on the sofa, and get lost in a good book … but duty calls. I know if I will just get started that one step will lead to another, and before I know it, my work will be done. All it takes is some perseverance and a whole lot of discipline.

Genuine Item or Fake?
I go to a college full of pranksters. You have to be constantly on guard around my friends. In the words of a cowboy friend, we’ve all “been had” at some point or another. There have been some pretty good pranks since I’ve been at college, but this week a prank was pulled that beat the rest – I mean, this was the practical joke of the century!
A friend of mine, Zach, had been pranked by another friend, David. So Zach decided to exact revenge. He created a Facebook account for a fake girl. Her name was “Kelly.” He created all of her personal information, posted pictures of one of his friends (a girl David wouldn’t recognize) and made her appear perfect. Among other things, her email address was proverbs31girl04@____.com.

I’ll Do It! …Later
I don’t have what you’d call a “driven” personality. My motto is: Why put off until tomorrow what you can put off indefinitely? Over the years I have tested my dad’s patience many times with my token phrase: “I’ll do it later….” I thought I was getting by just fine with this approach to life until last year, during my second semester of college. That was a time when my dad would say: Justice is sweet.

Musings of a Newlywed
Ten months ago, after a whirlwind eight month courtship, Andrew and I embarked on the journey of marriage. We marvel now at how much we thought we knew but how little we really did. We’ve been delightfully surprised and duly humbled in our first months of married life. During our engagement, we regularly invited the advice of family, friends, books, and marriage counselors. We were warned that sex, finances, and family relationships could be “hot topics” for newlyweds and advised to handle these issues with care.

BEATLEMANIA!
I love music. I started learning drums about eight years ago and have been privileged to play in numerous bands during this time. I also enjoy playing guitar and currently play in a rock band called Fading Rebel and love it! My interest in music led me to start reading a book I found in my school’s bookstore called The Gospel According to The Beatles by Steve Turner. It is a fascinating book about the spiritual journey of the Beatles and what part religion played in their lives. As I was reading the other day, I came across a controversial comment John Lennon made during the height of their success, where he claimed the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.

I Hate Running
I hate running. I mean, why go out in the summer heat and beat it out on the pavement when you can sit at home, watch a movie and eat a huge bowl of ice cream? You can be healthy and exercise, but you’ll just die anyway. I’d rather die face-down in a plate of fudge! My wife, on the other hand, is another story. She very much enjoys running. In fact, the very first “date” we had was when she asked if I would accompany her while she ran in downtown Dallas, so she wouldn’t have to worry about being mugged or anything. The only reason I agreed was that I thought this would be the only way I could get to be around her, and I personally think she was using this as an excuse for the same thing, but she will never admit it. As soon as I knew that we had become an item, the running quickly stopped. Was I running with ulterior motives? Absolutely!

Where is my Phone?
Every day when I open my e-mail, I find it’s constantly flooded with infamous forwards from family and friends that have already haunted inboxes around the world for years.
You know the ones I’m talking about—the cheesy, ridiculous e-mail forwards that result in hardcore eye rolling and cause you to click “delete” as fast as possible. And most of them warn that if you don’t forward it on to at least 50 percent of the contacts in your address book, you’ll be cursed, resulting in bad luck or misfortune for a lengthy amount of time.

He Did It His Way
The story of Cain and Abel has always been a little disturbing to me. Guess that’s because I can relate to Cain’s desire to do things his own way. Why was Abel’s offering accepted, but Cain’s rejected? What made Abel’s gift better than Cain’s? Was God playing favorites?
