The other day my brother and I were debating about which video game we should play. Of course, given that my brother is so stubborn, he didn’t want to play any of the games I wanted to play. Finally he agreed on a particular game, more than likely because it was an older one and we hadn’t played in a long time. So I pulled the game out of its case and stuck it in the Wii.

Of course, because he is my little brother, I was whooping him at every single game we played. He got really annoyed when I started taunting him at the finish line because of how far ahead I was. He finally said “You knew you were going to win even before we started playing!” This was not true because you can never be so sure about video games, yet I had a pretty good idea that I was going to dominate him because I’m a beast at that game. He did beat me a few times though, but he kept saying I always knew I was going to win even before we started each round

That got me thinking. That’s exactly how God is. He knew everything that was going to happen even before He started time. And He also knew He was going to conquer the devil in the end. Later on, not only did he know, but everybody knew: the angels, the demons, even Satan. The demons believe in God and know that He is going to be the ultimate victor yet they fight anyways. This correlates with how we are. As Christians, we so often think that to become a Christian, we just have to believe in Jesus and we’re saved, but that’s not it. Even the Demons believe in God and Jesus (James 2:19), but they aren’t Christians, so what makes us Christians?

What makes us Christians is not the belief, but the surrender. We surrender our belongings, our dreams, and our whole lives to Christ, and that’s what makes us Christians. So what does surrender involve? It involves you asking God what He wants to do with your life and obeying Him. So try it out. See what God has planned for you by surrendering your life to Him.

“You believe that God is one; you do well. The demons also believe - and they shudder.” James 2:19 (HCSB)
