When I was sitting in a service this summer at my church’s youth camp, God met me and He rocked my world. I was sitting in this service listening to the pastor talk about these kids in Haiti that live in horrible situations. They are faced every single day with: disease, starvation, abuse, and they have no one there to tell them they love them—no one there to make them feel special, to make them feel as if they are worth something. A story was told of a precious little girl whose face is still burned in my mind. She is eight years old and orphaned. It is her responsibility to take care of herself as well as her younger brother who is under the age of one.
This story pulled at my heart strings. I prayed that if God would show me a way to make a difference because I want to be His servant. I prayed that the Lord would show me a way, any way, to help these kids out. The Lord heard my prayers and He started a fire deep inside my heart to do something to help. I started making key chains.
I’m making key chains and selling them to raise money to build a home for orphans in Haiti. Alongside my church’s crazy love campaign to build multiple homes, a church, a school, and a community for the people of Haiti, I’m raising money to build a home. What exactly do I mean by a home? I am trying to raise enough money to provide a mother that will take care of the kids that live there. The homes are small kid-friendly buildings where the kids can truly get a sense of belonging and feel loved.
I started selling key chains two days ago and the Lord is showing me how huge He really is. It has been two days and I have close to three hundred dollars already!! WOW!! We serve a big God. I am learning that if He can work through me, a high school student in Tennessee, He can definitely work through anyone. My prayer is that many will jump onboard.
